| La Châtaigneraire is a small coloured spot
in the green region of "La Vendeè", situated on the Western part of France,
about 60 km from the Atlantic coast, between Nantes and Saint Sulpice en Pareds. The town
is constituted by two little village of 600 and 400 inhabitants, in one of the most
beautiful tourist areas of France. In spite of its little dimensions, this town has a
great history characterized by the spirit enterprise of its inhabitants. |

|
In the past it was considered a fountain in
a holy wood. In the 1021, la Châtaigneraire was governed by the Chasteigner family who
had a castle and a church built, this one being called "Castenaria", which is
the origin of the town's name. In the 14th century, the family Chasteigner fell
in decadence and the De Vivonne family brought the name of the Chàtaigneraie to the court
of the King of France. Around the 17th century, the town was divided by wars
between Catholics and Protestants till when the Dantes edictes established the defeat of
the Protestants. |
| At the beginning of the French Revolution,
la Chàtaigneraie was nominated one of the six districts that constituted La Vendeè, but
the violence of the Revolution arrived also there, bringing many battles and confronts.
After this age, the population was separated into various yet balanced parts with
different political opinions. La Vendeè offers many tourist attractions. The inhabitants
of this area are farmers, craftsmen and employees in local companies. The life is quit and
people are kind and friendly. |
