| Frederikssund, with over 17,000 inhabitants,
rises on the area of the Noëdsjaelland's fjords, where Vikings lived in the past. First
historical evidences of settlements in the area go back to the Stone Age. The city was
named Frederikssund in 1650 and in the following years it developed and became a true city
prevalently commercial. |

Every year, a big stage is put up near a
beautiful tourist port, surrounded by a most beautiful green area, where the ancient
Viking exploits are recalled. This great tradition has allowed the reconstruction, in
1993, of an authentic Viking village that makes the city a tourist destination. The
region of Horsherred, where Frederikssund rises, has been the residence of the most
important men of Denmark, who left beautiful monuments. Two of them are the Selso Castle,
from the 16th century, where one can admire wonderful ceiling paintings, and
the Jaegerspris Castle, where King Frederick VII lived for nine years, that still
preserves an ancient aspect because of its original furniture and other adornments.

| One can visit the J.F.Willumsen Museum,
which exhibits works of the homonymous artist, and also the Dolls Museum. The area offers
various sporting and recreating activities, such as fishing, sailing, and numerous
cultural events, such as concerts, performances and exhibitions. Beautiful woods surround
the Frederikssund area. One of them is the Nordskoven Woods, where there is the oldest oak
tree of Northern Europe of about 1400-1900 years old. In the Ostskoven Woods, situated in
the area of fjords, there is a small island with the ruins of a monastery from the 12th
century. |
