Every year the Karl-May plays are staged
right below the Karlsberg. They consist of plays and concerts that people can see in one
of the most beautiful open-air theatres of Europe. Right beside the open-air theatre,
there is the "Indian Village" with the Nebraska house that offers an exhibition
of guns of the North-American Indians and of the white pioneers. Bad Segeberg is recorded
to be more tan 850 years old. The Emperor Lothar III, pressed by the monk Vicelin, had let
the Victory Castle was build on the top of the Karlsberg in 1134. Right next the hill, he
ordered that a church and a monastery were built. The Victory Castle was destroyed in the
War of the 30 years. The oldest building that was preserved is the Public House, which is
today a very interesting museum. |
| The wood sculptor and painter, Otto Flath,
has created magnificent works in Bad Segeberg, some of which can be visited in the Otto
Flath art museum. During the whole year, Bad Segeberg has an intense cultural live. In the
Summer, concerts that go from classic music to folklore and, even, jazz are carried out;
moreover, art exhibitions, theatre for the children and a lot of other cultural activities
are also carried out. The climax of this cultural life are the concerts of the
Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Every year, the riders meet in Bad Segeberg for the
tournament of the Federate State. |
