| Aranda de Duero is situated in the South of
Burgos, a Castile province, only two hours away from Madrid. The river Duero crosses the
town and urban settlement spreads over a flat land at both borders of this river and
tributaries Arandilla and Bañuelos. Very well located, it is compulsory passage from
Madrid to the nothern country and from Castile to the Spanish northeaster regions. Local
capital, Aranda de Duero has over 30,000 inhabitants and it is facilities' dealer centre
for a wide area, not only concerning its district, 56 townships, 1596 km² and more than
50,000 inhabitants but also close towns from provinces such as Valladolid, Segovia, Soria
and Palencia. |

The main economic activity, historically,
has been agriculture and especially the wines' growing and production. Since ancient times
there is also a flourishing trade able to offer the goods and equipment needed by dwellers
from Aranda and its area. Nevertheless, from 1959 when Aranda was declared one of Madrid's
industrial states, the main activity sector is Industry. |
| In the area around Aranda de Duero,
natural beauty spots can be visited but also historic and artistic places like Saint
Domingo de Silos Monastery with a magnificent romantic cloister and very known because of
his Gregorian songs. It is a place full of art and good gastronomy: the young roast lamb
is the king of the courses and it is served in numerous restaurants together with
"the torta", a typical bread from the area, lettuce and superior local wine.
Other courses are lamb chops, meat cooked with tomatoes and peppers, black pudding with
rice and a wide new or traditional pastry making.
