San Vito is a coast Town, by the Adriatic Sea, in the province of Chieti, very near Pescara. It has about 5,200 inhabitants.

There is an older town, on the top of a hill and a newer town by the sea: La Marina de San Vito.

The Cultural Association VITO OLIVIERI, concurs in the Eurofestival since their origin in Libramot (Belgium).

National teams arrived on July 12. And for the first time, the Swedish town, Upplands Väsby, took part in the event. Therefore at least 800 people, coming from every corner of Europe, concurred this time in the Festival.

On Tuesday 15^th July, the President of the Regional Council, Dr. Umberto Amiola came to the Festival.

The activities, which established the festival’s schedule, were:

 

Opening Parade

Every European delegation paraded as well as several groups from San Vito, which welcomed the festival participants on 13^th July 1997. At the top part of the town, San Vito´s Mayor, Gianfranco Baterebbe, had the encounter open in the main square by the town hall.

ACTIVITIES:

Sports

Sports disciplines selected by the Italian team were football, volleyball, archery, Ping-Pong, petanque, cycling and running. Tournaments were mixed and they were held at different venues in town.

Culture

The Cultural representation from every country: folk group, musicians, singers, etc. Performed on four different stages, the main of them on the top part of the town. Another very crowded stage was the beach from the Marina de San Vito.

Gastronomy

Every country carried out cookery demonstrations in San Vito’s Campsite Restaurant. Several organisation members made up the jury, on charge of scoring the diverse courses prepared by every cook.

Promotion

National stands were located on the top part of the town, making use of the fishermen old houses´ halls, promotional and tourist products could be exhibited during the whole encountering.

Italian hosts arranged a journey through the Abruzzos region; journalists and professionals from every delegation were invited and could enjoy tours on wineries and companies producing olive oil.

Teams could choose between various tourist offers; the valley trains, the Abruzzo´s National Park, the town of Aquila, etc.

Accommodation

National teams were accommodated in a campsite called " COSTA DE ARGENTO" placed in Marina de San Vito, by the sea. Italian Army arranged broad camp tents for the teams to be used. Very near the Campsite, in the Town football ground, the catering and place to eat was established and called "EUROPE RESTAURANT", adjoining a big top, under which, different evening entertainment could be enjoyed.

Transport

A bus service regularly connected the top part of the town and Marina de San Vito, for the participants who wanted it.
