THE PROGRAMME
The Festival began on Saturday 23rd
July with the disembarkation of the sacred fire from the port of Frederikssund.
Amongst the programmed activities in
this edition of the festival there were art and craft exhibitions, artesian products and
examples of cottage industries in the recently opened Community centre for social and
cultural events. In a restored power station one could find sculptures, drawings, examples
of pottery, woodwork, and textiles.
|
 |
As in the previous edition, there was a
competitive exhibition of national cuisine from each country. These gastronomic events
took place on a daily basis, in the Euroville, in the Frederikssund hallen.
The local press, the Frederikssund Avis,
collaborated closely in the activities of the Eurofestival, publishing special issues with
the idea of transmitting information about local businesses and other promotional
organisations of the northern region of Seeland. Along the same lines, as is tradition
there was a seminar about Regional Tourism, in which the countries present had the
opportunity to share what their regions had to offer.
Apart from the Sports trials, on this
occasion: fiveaside football, crossbow, archery, swimming, badminton, orienteering,
petanque, tennis and volleyball, and the usual cultural activities and stands, the
organisers prepared a magnificent "Viking games" to the delight of all the
participants.
|
 |
There was also a youth festival set up on
the Frederikssund 94 Eurofestivals programme. It lasted for two days at the
Ferry Cronwell. Five members from each nation between 18 and 25 worked throughout the week
in musical/theatre/ art workshops. The idea being to prepare a map and history of Europe.
There was also a race held in the town,
where the participants following a pre established route, on various means of transport,
took part in differing trials and obstacles.
The most spectacular and awaited event for
the participants was the dramatisation of a Viking invasion, where 250 actors took part in
one of the most well known Danish sagas.
|
 |
Wednesday 27th, the delegations
took the chance to see Copenhagen and lose themselves in the amazing Tivoli Park, probably
one of the most classical theme parks in the world.
The Princess Elizabeth, from he Danish
royal family, also made an appearance at the Eurofestival.
